Beyond A Wholesome Discipline

Beyond A Wholesome Discipline

... be gentle with yourself

'Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.'

Max Ehrmann wrote these words in 1927 in his well-loved poem, Desiderata.

Are you good at the wholesome 'discipline' bit, not so good at the 'gentle' bit?

There’s no doubt that having inspiring goals and taking action to fulfil those goals will help you to build a rich and rewarding life.

But so too will taking time to relax, reflect and re-energise - or as the writer, Brenda Ueland, said, ‘imagination needs moodling - long, inefficient, happy idling, dawdling and puttering.’

Take time to moodle.

It will balance and replenish you, sustain your creativity, and help you clearly see the bigger picture of your life.
